This book is the second in the Slaves to Darkness series by Gav Thorpe. When I received this book I had not read the first one, but when I finished this one I immediately went and ordered the first book, Claws of Chaos. I'm also eagerly awaiting the third book.
Gav did a great job in my opinion with this book. Even though I had not read the first book he did a good job of filling the reader in without spending too much time doing so. I was able to piece together what happened in the first book without being distracted from the story at hand.
The book said the main story line was the main character's raid on the Tomb Kings, but I thought this was more just filler than anything else. The rest of the book was far superior to the Tomb Kings raid. There were ship battles, large-scale battles with humans and dwarves fighting orcs and goblins, a search for a magic sword, and treachery by wizards. I can definitely see where this book was setting the reader up for the third book in the series.
I would recommend this book and already have to anyone interested in good books in the fantasy setting. People not familiar with Warhammer might have a little harder time understanding why the characters are acting the way they do, but it is still a good book and worth reading. I just hope Gav hurries up and finishes the third book because I am ready to read it.
