The deadline for the new Mslexia Women's Novel Competition for previously unpublished novelists is approaching fast ' the deadline is 30 September. They say they 'have some novel-related resources available on our website which may be of some interest to anyone who is thinking of entering the competition ' or who is in the process of writing a novel in any context.
Firstly, we have our Quick Fix Fiction feature, originally published in the Apr/May/Jun 2011 edition of Mslexia: here. Secondly, the Get Published area of our website includes intensive workshops on writing the first paragraph, title, synopsis and pitch letter: here.
The competition is open to any genre of adult fiction, including fantasy, crime, romance, sci-fi, women's lit and more, but we're not accepting nonfiction or fiction for children under the age of 13. Our very exciting judging panel is made up of literary agent Clare Alexander, broadcaster Jenni Murray and novelist Sarah Waters. The first prize is '5,000.' The first Write by the Sea workshop takes place on 30 September ' 2 October 2011: Fiction Foundations is aimed at those starting out on the fiction writing highway. The tutors are Carol Clewlow & Kitty Fitzgerald.
On 28 - 30 October, the course is all about Novel Writing, with Wendy Robertson & Avril Joy. And on 25 - 27 November, Michael Chaplin & Karen Laws lead a course on Writing for TV.
Accommodation is on the seafront at Whitley Bay. Each writer will have his/her own room. There is a bar/ lounge and plenty of spaces to work alone. Accommodation and all meals are provided.
