Books / Forgotten Realms
« on: October 23, 2019, 10:11:58 am »
I recently stumbled across FORGOTTEN REALMS, the series of novels based in the campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. It looks as though there are about 295 of the things (including anthologies)! One person has even created their own spreadsheet and reckons itíll take the best part of 10 years to read them all! (Then thereís the debate about whether you should read the novels in publication order or chronological order). I donít really have time for that. So is anyone familiar with this series and, more importantly, can recommend a few of these books to read? To put it bluntly, which ones are the best?

Wikipedia helpfully supplies a complete list of these novels if that helps:

TV and Film / Tomb Raider 2

Yes, there will be a sequel to the 2018 TOMB RAIDER movie starring Alicia Vikander:

I accept that not everyone regards this as Ďfantasyí in the pure sense of the genre. After all, these are billed as action-adventure movies. But I think the Tomb Raider franchise includes enough Ďfantasticalí elements to warrant a thread here!

« on: April 14, 2019, 11:45:19 am »
Amazon's new 'Lord of the Rings' TV Series is due to start filming in Scotland this August. The series "will be set during the 3,441-year period before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring. In the JRR Tolkien timeline, this is known as the Age of Nķmenor, or the Second Age":

There's an official twitter feed for the show as well:

Other Media / Soundtrack for The Wheel of Time?
« on: November 15, 2018, 09:29:35 am »
Is anyone familiar with this album, A SOUNDTRACK FOR THE WHEEL OF TIME? Performed, produced and written by Robert Berry, itís marketed as ĎMusic inspired by Robert Jordanís best-selling seriesí but is apparently based on Berryís soundtrack for the 1999 WoT video game! Personally, it didnít do much for me. There were no stand-out tracks, and only a couple of pieces that I found remotely decent! Hopefully we will get a more stirring soundtrack if, and when, the proposed WHEEL OF TIME TV series hits our screens.

TV and Film / Wheel of Time Fantasy Drama Nabs Amazon Series Order

I meant to post this a few weeks ago:

"Robert Jordan's epic world of magic and mysticism is being brought to the small screen. The long-gestating TV show based on Robert Jordan's epic The Wheel of Time novels is officially a go at Amazon. The streamer confirmed...that it had ordered the one-hour action fantasy to series, with Sony Pictures TV co-producing and Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), who adapted the books for TV, serving as showrunner."

TV and Film / New Red Sonja movie?
« on: November 14, 2017, 11:23:43 am »
It looks as if there may (finally) be a new Red Sonja movie on the cards:

Mind you, we've been here before but, given the recent success of 'Wonder Woman', this time it may well happen.
