General Discussion / British Horror Society?
« on: April 06, 2011, 12:23:03 am »
Johnny Mains posted a link to this on Friendface a few days ago - I'd never heard of it until then, but there are a lot of red flags.

Anyway, they decided to spam the British Horror Novels group on Facebook, so I asked them a few questions. Sorry it's not that in depth, but I think it gives enough away:

Adrian Chamberlin
Who IS the society, Thomas? Who makes up your committee, do you have some big names in the British horror field? And why are you charging competition entrants for the chance to design your own logo?

[b]Thomas Smith It is a well known fact that everything starts small, it is also a well known fact that there is no official British Horror Society, so yes this is a work in progress, so watch this space.

Adrian Chamberlin I'm well aware that everything starts small - little acorns and mighty oaks, etcetera. But you've not answered my questions. A work in progress is one thing - charging people to become a part of that work in progress is something else. 'Watching this space' isn't good enough. Who are you, and what do you have to offer the British horror industry that the British Fantasy Society can't already supply?

Thomas Smith What can we offer that the British Fantasy society can't, well first of all we are more genre specific to horror and secondly we are going to be setting up events all around the country that are very Horror specific.

Adrian Chamberlin Very commendable. But surely you can be a bit more open about yourselves? Again, I must ask: who are you as a society? Who is on the committee?

Thomas Smith At the moment there is just the two of us, myself and a guy called Raine evans but like I said everything starts small and as we expand so will the commitee and so will our reputation, I am already working on lining up some reasonably big interviews but will not reveal any details till they are confirmed.

At this point I gave up.

Announcements and Suggestions / Use of BFS logo.
« on: February 14, 2011, 12:07:48 am »
Hello, all.

The first batch of releases from Dark Continents are going to be released at WHC Texas this year. We've obtained permission to use the official WHC logo on the copyright page and covers of our books to make them special limited editions - the stipulation being that we don't sell those books outside the venue.

The reason I've mentioned this is because we'll be launching two new books at FCon this year: Quiet Houses, by Simon Kurt Unsworth and Campfire Chillers by Dave Jeffery. We'd like to do the same thing with these as we're doing at WHC - release a limited version for sale only at FCon - with the rather lovely BFS logo on the cover.

So - could anyone tell me if it would be acceptable to do this, or point me in the way of the person to ask?

Many thanks,

Adrian Chamberlin

Although we're launching at WHC 2011, we thought we'd sneak out a little short story collection. A sampler of what you can expect from us in the future.

THE SPECTRUM COLLECTION
A collection of tales that make the rainbow a little bit darker...

Includes The Elms, Morecambe by SIMON KURT UNSWORTH, from his forthcoming collection Quiet Houses.

EBook available here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Spectrum-Collection/dp/B004HB1WAK

Print versions are available from our website. Simon and myself will be having some shipped over from the States, so if you'd like a signed copy just get in touch with either one of us.

Enjoy!  ;D

Hello, all

Adrian Chamberlin here - some of you may know me from the GNS and BHN boards, as well as the DF Underground.

Joined the BFS last week - can't believe I didn't do it sooner. Just waiting for my membership to arrive.

I'm also going to the World Horror Convention at Brighton this weekend, so looking forward to meeting some of you there.

All the best,

Ade
