TV and Film / Re: New Red Sonja movie?
« on: February 12, 2019, 08:03:34 am »
And now it's on hold!

From Cinema Blend:

"Following the success of Wonder Woman in 2017, Millennium Media announced that it would finance and produce a reboot of Red Sonja, which is a project that has been in some stage of development for many years. Then last year, director Bryan Singer became attached to direct the film and a new Red Sonja looked closer than it’s ever been to actually happening. But now Bryan Singer’s Red Sonja is officially on hold"

From Tor.com:

"The Wheel of Time, Amazon Studios’ forthcoming television adaptation of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series, will go into production starting in September 2019, according to the trade publication Production Weekly...Another notable detail is the location: the series will shoot at least in part in Prague, Czech Republic."

From Cinema Blend:

Bryan Singer is reportedly negotiating an upfront fee of $10 million to direct Red Sonja. That would be his highest upfront fee to date according to 'The Hollywood Reporter.'

In early 2019, Singer was met with more allegations of sexual assault against underage boys...Millennium Films, which is making Red Sonja, issued a statement of support for Singer from producer Avi Lerner, saying the film was still in development and Singer was still attached.

Actually, I haven't got any further with WoT. Plenty of other books in the pile to read first! I was minded to go for the prequel, NEW SPRING, next but having read your comments perhaps I'll opt for THE GREAT HUNT instead.

Other Media / Soundtrack for The Wheel of Time?
« on: November 15, 2018, 09:29:35 am »
Is anyone familiar with this album, A SOUNDTRACK FOR THE WHEEL OF TIME? Performed, produced and written by Robert Berry, it’s marketed as ‘Music inspired by Robert Jordan’s best-selling series’ but is apparently based on Berry’s soundtrack for the 1999 WoT video game! Personally, it didn’t do much for me. There were no stand-out tracks, and only a couple of pieces that I found remotely decent! Hopefully we will get a more stirring soundtrack if, and when, the proposed WHEEL OF TIME TV series hits our screens.

Like your friends, I’ve only recently come to Robert Jordan’s epic cycle. So far, I’ve only read THE EYE OF THE WORLD, so am not in much of a position to enter into a discussion on the series. But I was wondering, what should I read next? Should I go straight to Book #2 THE GREAT HUNT or should I read the WoT prequel, NEW SPRING? My favourite character from Book #1 is Moiraine Sedai; I think she’s a wonderful creation. I’d like to learn more about her, and understand that NEW SPRING is very much her ‘backstory’?

I’ve just read THE SHORES OF VANAHEIM, Book 3 in Matt Larkin’s ‘Gods of the Ragnarok Era’ series. This, as the author says, “is a dark fantasy retelling of Norse mythology, chronicling Odin’s rise to godhood.” I really liked it but appreciate that ‘dark’ Norse fantasy may not be for everyone!

I meant to post this a few weeks ago:

"Robert Jordan's epic world of magic and mysticism is being brought to the small screen. The long-gestating TV show based on Robert Jordan's epic The Wheel of Time novels is officially a go at Amazon. The streamer confirmed...that it had ordered the one-hour action fantasy to series, with Sony Pictures TV co-producing and Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), who adapted the books for TV, serving as showrunner."

I’ve just finished reading WARRIOR WOMEN, a fabulous collection of SFF tales edited by Paula Guran. It includes some wonderful stories from the likes of Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Theodora Goss, Caitlin R. Kiernan, Seanan McGuire, George R. R. Martin and many more! As the blurb on the back cover says, “compelling tales of powerful women.”

It looks as if there may (finally) be a new Red Sonja movie on the cards:

Mind you, we've been here before but, given the recent success of 'Wonder Woman', this time it may well happen.
