BFS Publications / Dark Horizons - updated guidelines
« on: May 04, 2008, 04:43:43 pm »
Hi everyone

I've just about finished preparing the new guidelines for Dark Horizons. For now, they are just available on my website here, so that I can carry on tweaking them easily for a little while. In a week or two I'll ask Peter to copy them across to the BFS site. Thanks to Peter Coleborn and Jan Edwards for letting me adapt their previous guidelines.

The  changes aren't all that significant - I'm just asking for a couple of new types of things, and I've reordered it a bit. The biggest decision was whether to stick with the request for submissions on paper, but in the end I think Peter and Jan had the right idea.

Any comments are more than welcome.

Announcements and Suggestions / The BFS on Wikipedia

Just pointing out that there's an entry for the BFS on Wikipedia, if anyone else wants to take a swing at it.

I've made a couple of small changes so far, adding a mention of New Horizons.

BFS Publications / Non-Fiction

(Split from the New Editor thread.)

We're looking quite good for fiction already, but we're a bit short on non-fiction.

If anyone has a bee in their bonnet about someone or something fantastical, do get in touch to discuss whether it would make a viable article.

As an alternative, I also like the idea of something like the reader articles on GameCentral (C4 teletext), where a viewer writes a short piece on something that gets them very agitated. So if you have a less than scholarly but strongly held opinion about something, let me know and we'll see about instituting a member's column...

Any letters would be welcome, too. Letters in journals are great. Especially ones from bespectacled academics who have  recently made curious discoveries in ancient ruins.

BFS Publications / Index to Dark Horizons?
« on: March 26, 2008, 05:46:08 pm »
Not having read Dark Horizons for very long, I'm conscious that there's a danger, when it comes to commissioning articles, of going over old ground.

With that in mind, is anyone aware of an index to the contents of Dark Horizons to date, so I can avoid subjects that have been well and truly done to death?

If there is one, I'd be very grateful for a pointer in its direction, or maybe a photocopy.

If you can't help with that, but there's any topic that you'd either love or hate to see articles on (or, indeed, that you'd be interested in writing yourself), please feel free to chip in with your comments!
