Black Static 21 is out now and has two first time authors in the TOC. One of these is Victoria Leslie who lives in Portsmouth and her success is celebrated in her local newspaper, The News. You can see what the photographer thinks about horror fiction writers from his photo

Interzone July 2009, the Dominic Green Interzone special issue (#223), did its job and brought him some recognition from publishers. Dominic, one of Interzone’s top ten fiction contributors with over 20 stories in the magazine - including three in that special, now has his first novel “Smallworld” out this month. Fingerpress will publish it in time for Christmas.

Matt Stephens, of Fingerpress, told me "The special issue actually introduced me to Dominic's writing (I'd heard of him before that but hadn't read his stories), and was what prompted me to contact him... "

Four of Dominic's Interzone stories have been picked for the prestigious Year's Best Science Fiction Anthologies since 1999 and his The Clockwork Atom Bomb (read it here) was nominated for the 2005 Hugo Award. Listen to the podcast here. . The 2010 edition of TheYear's Best Science Fiction: Twenty-Seventh Annual Collection  contains his Butterfly Bomb from that special issue. This story is set in Dominic’s Proprietor’s Universe as is Smallworld.

For a pre Christmas laugh try his Sherlock Holmes pastiche The Adventure of the Lost World appears on the BBC Cult TV website.

Plus check out the podcast of his "That Thing Over There" (Interzone June 1998 and Year's Best SF 4, 1999) at Transmissions from Beyond.

Latest issue of Interzone.

We are now one week away from our Twitter Zinechat. 23:00 GMT Tuesday 14 Dec.

To find Zinechat: log on twitter. Then on the right-hand navigation bar on the main Twitter page, there is a search box. (Find People) Just type in #zinechat there, and find the stream. Follow the #zinechat hashtag, and mark all of your responses with #zinechat. This allows users who do not follow any of us to see all posts and responses.

This will be an open forum: hopefully lots of people asking all sorts of questions, which may be tricky as we hope to have 3 or 4 of us online answering. Those numbers will decline after midnight so get there early. You can try it anytime as there is stuff on Zinechat now.

Interesting comments Paul. Maybe the Peter Tennant advent calendar and David Gentry's art will make up for the abundance of DVD reviews. It is important to cater for the many readers with a yen for movie horror in the magazine and I'm glad I'm not the editor. Plus people like bad horror movies.

BFS Events / TTA in Waterstones!!!
« on: November 02, 2010, 10:52:38 am »
If you are in the Liverpool area on 26 Nov we are having a Black Static Showcase at Waterstone's Liverpool One. This will be the second in their Twisted Tales horror fiction readings and TTA authors Graham Joyce, Paul Finch and Simon Kurt Unsworth will provide the chills.

I'll be there with the magazines so it's a rare opportunity to buy them in Waterstones and we hope to do more such events if we are anywhere near as successful as that Halloween event.

Start 6 pm, end 8 pm
