Hello and all that er Jazz
« on: February 09, 2008, 05:04:08 pm »
Hello All,

I'm here to pick brains, pull legs (I am not a zombie) and look for places to submit work.

In my spare time I write short stories, a few articles and I am currently working on my first novel.

I would be very interested in any writing groups that people might be a part of.

When I am not working or writing, I read or narrate books, do a bit of running and absorb useless information.

I also write a nonsense blog as a kind of mental exercise when I get bored - The Bumper Blog of Lies

Hi Phil   :)

A few of us have a small writing group on a forum associated to the Pantechnicon e-zine.   You'd be welcome to take a shuftie.

http://www.pantechnicon.net/forum/index.php?board=18.0    ;D

What's the novel about ?
If wishes were horses then we'd all be eating steak.
Jayne Cobb, Firefly.

But ... if fishes were courses then we'd all be eating hake ...

Hi Joshua,

thanks for the invite, I am investigating right now.

The novel is a comic fantasy. It follows the adventures of two space delivery beings who crash land on a world much like mythical Japan during the Edo period. Its mixes my loves of anime and fantasy.

My short stories tend to be much darker, more traditional fantasy, though I hope to write novels set in one or more of the worlds I have envisioned as well.

Hi and welcome, Phil!

The best market list (bar none) is Ralan's at:-
http://www.ralan.com/

If you use it, do consider making a donation as he maintains it entirely at his own expense.

For critique groups, I can recommend Critters:-
http://www.critique.org/

I was a member for a couple of years, and I learned a lot.

I'd recommend http://www.duotrope.com for market advice too. You can search their database based on genre, word count, paying or non-paying markets, and a load of other stuff too!

Wow!

Thanks everyone.

I have just signed up for Critters. Believe it or not I have been typing words into google to find that for about a week! A million years ago (well nearly) I emailed John Ravenscroft to ask for advice. He mentioned this great sight for for writers. I had loads of problems at the time and fell out of writing and forgot the name. All I could remember was it ended in 'ers'!

I will also have fun trawling through the market info.

Again thank you for the info and the warm welcome

Phil
