Black Static
« on: December 18, 2008, 12:15:54 PM »
The printer sent us many more copies of Black Static 8 than we needed, so we?ve decided to offer a FREE COPY to every new subscriber between now and the publication in February of issue 9 or until we run out of issue 8, whichever comes first.

To take advantage of this offer CLICK HERE to enter the shop. Follow the simple instructions, and make sure you write BS8 Offer in the Shopper?s Reference field. That bit?s very important, without it you won?t receive the extra free copy.

The offer applies to all subscriptions to Black Static: both six-issue and twelve-issue subscriptions and both dual subscription offers with Interzone.

The shop can accept any credit/debit card and paypal.

And have a good Christmas and New Year or whichever other seasonal celebration suits you, whatever your reaction to this offer.

I probably should say this offer does not apply to Fictionwise E Book subscriptions

Also you can freely download stories from Black Static from Transmissions From Beyond, the TTA Press Podcast if you want to try before you buy

The first seven issues of Black Static are available as E books from Fictionwise now and you'll also find TTA Press's first E novel on the same site. It is a first novel by TTAs short story discovery Andrew Humphrey. This is the horror novel 'Alison' which shows "we all have our dark side" and it costs $5.99 (4.10 today) as an E book.

Of course, if you don't use an E reader, you can still buy the print version direct from TTA press for £9.99 including UK postage. Similarly for Black Static the print versions are still available but there are 8 of them and number 9 is due soon. Its easy to subscribe.

In Black Static 9 BAFTA winning scriptwriter Stephen Volk contributes to the short fiction content with “Fear”. Stephen is famed as the screenwriter of the 1992 Halloween hoax documentary ‘Ghostwatch’ and supernatural and paranormal thriller ‘Afterlife’. He also scripted Ken Russell’s 1986 film ‘Gothic’ and 1990’s The Guardian. His short story collection, Dark Corners, was published by Gray Friar Press in 2006.

Stephen is also a Black Static regular as a columnist so he makes two appearances in this next issue. David Gentry's cover also shows the horrors likely to lurk in brown paper envelopes.

Black Static was named after a story by Paul Meloy which appeared in its predecessor magazine The Third Alternative.
You can read an interview with Paul on the Fix.

Black Static 10 will have a new printer and some, non specialist, retail distribution this time so we hope it will be on sale, at least in Borders, and maybe elsewhere by 16 April. Look out for it and let us know if you see it please. (Buy one as well if you like)
This issue will include stories by Christopher Fowler, Gary McMahon, James Cooper, Maura McHugh, Shannon Page, Scott Lambridis plus the usual columns by Chris Fowler, Stephen Volk and Mike O'Driscoll, DVD reviews by Tony Lee and book reviews by Peter Tennant (including interviews with Thomas Ligotti and Ellen Datlow), etc.

And you will be able to see the first 9 issues at Eastercon along with other TTA publications.

Also we are taking pre-orders for the second edition paperback of Paul Meloy's story collection Islington Crocodiles. 1296

Black Static 10 came out a week late on the 20th/21st but it should be in Borders and maybe other likely newsagents/bookshops now.
Pleae let us know if you spot it 'in the wild'.

New subscribers to any TTA Press magazine receive a FREE Black Static issue 10 with a subscription received before the end of May. Existing subscribers to Interzone and Crimewave can have one as well, if they renew now/early and request a sample, or free, copy of Black Static 10.

Black Static's website now hosts Peter Tennant's Case Notes blog.
Peter's blog has covered Ligotti, Robert E Howard and how to get your book reviewed in Black Static.

Black Static 11 arrived today and will be in some bookshops, eg Borders, and newsagents now.
Contents list and David Gentry's cover and interior graphics here.

Look at all the BFS Award shortlist associations it's accumulated this year. It must be worth trying. 2100
