Roy - I picked up the last two copies in a local newsagent.

Great to see it on the shelf in amongst the usual guff.

Best of luck with the BFA nominations.

On the Black Static website Pete Tennant
Quote
discusses the matter of awards, with a view to demonstrating that they don't actually mean anything unless he's won one, and then as an afterthought declares that July is British Fantasy Awards month at Case Notes.

Joel Lane's British Fantasy Award nominated story Winter Journey is first in line along with an interview with Joel who won the Best Short Fiction award in 2008 with My Stone Desire, which appeared in the very first issue of Black Static. 2371

I've just bought issues five and six from Fictionwise so that I can read this year's short story contenders...

Thanks Martin, that's Shire News 110 High St, Newcastle (Staffs) I assume.

Good work Stephen, from a TTA viewpoint. I hope you feel the same when you've read them. 2433

Cheers,

I met BFA stalwarts Martin and Helen in Manchester today and even helped them dole out Prizms to delighted Mancunians.
Tim Lees helped on our stand and Simon Bestwick came by before going off to see Tim and Conrad Williams reading.

I also saw that Stephen Volk wrote this about Black Static 11 on the Iz Forum. 2578

BS #11 is wonderful issue and BS is still the best designed magazine in the genre. I'm proud to be a part of it!

Al Robertson's "De Profundis" was gripping and chilling. I loved None Had Sharp Teeth which reminded me of the delight on McIntosh's previous "Circus Town". Gary Couzens's "Served Cold" was stunningly - numbingly - unpleasant. And "Off With The Furies" by Daniel Kaysen a real tour de force. Brilliant.

I'll be in St Ann's Square again tomorrow, Sunday 19th, and there are a few BS 11's left.

Good to talk yesterday Roy, and thanks for helping publicise the BFS.

Cheers to Comma Press also.

Sorry I missed you Simon and the readings of course.

Hello,

Myself and Nadia were at the stall Saturday, sadly we missed you Martin, but we did meet Roy and Tim. We bought BS #1 and #11.

Nadia has already finished #1 and really enjoyed it. I've read the reviews in #11, while having a pint, before moving on and finishing the shopping.

On the back of #11 is an advert for Tide Of Souls by Simon Bestwick, and there is a launch for this on Wednesday night, 22nd at 8.30pm at Bluu Bar on Thomas St in the Northern Quarter in Manchester, Thomas St. is just of Shudehill. Also being launched is a short story collection be Simon, Pictures of the Dark. It's free in and if anyone is going I'll see you there.

Wayne.

Thanks Wayne. Yes it was good to meet you and Nadia and I hope you are now thinking that you should have bought the other nine BS issues. Its terrible, we are never content with selling 2 issues. Saturday was the best day weatherwise and Manchester certainly lived up to its rainy reputation. 2703

Simon Bestwick also turned up later that day and I left him, Tim Lees and Conrad Williams searching for a pub as I packed up. I'm sure they didn't have to look far.
