Bit of an odd request this, but I was loaned a copy of Best New Horror 3 last year which had a really great story called Subway Story (set in my hometown it seems, judging by some streetnames mentioned) and have so far managed to track down a few other pieces by the same author via the brief biog that prefaced the story through a guy who had old issues of Dark Dreams magazine.

Apparently, the story was from a BFS booklet of three stories by the same writer called Stirring Within - is this still available anywhere?

And has anyone any idea if he has been published anywhere since as I have tried a Google search and found nothing after Best New Horror 3 so far...

Any help would be appreciated!

Chaz

I'll ask some of the other members. If you want I could ask your request to go in Prism, the newsletter/magazine.

I've got a copy Stirring Within. I thought I had a spare one, I'll go and have a dig this weekend and let you know.

He was due to appear at the time of SW going to print in New Blood. Don't know if he did or not.

Wayne.

If you could ask around it would be a help - would like to get in touch with him about the connection to my hometown and to see what he has been doing so far because it sounded in the biog of Best New Horror 3 that he was going to be appearing more and more but it's more like he has vanished off the face of the Earth - also, is Dark Dreams still available?

If memory serves, David Cowperthwaite who was responsible the BFS booklet was also involved with Dark Dreams. I'm sure Dark Dreams is now defunct. David was involved with the Ghost Story Society when it was run from Merseyside. So if you ask at their site you may get some joy. Here is the link to the Ghost Story Society.

I'll let you know if I find a spare copy.

Nothing more unnerving than hearing from somebody that you're being sought out...

Always nice to be missed - a sentiment I'm sure JFK would have loved the chance to appreciate...

Anyway, yes, I was from Grimsby and yes, the story in question was set there...

And no, I haven't written since - publication-wise - except for humorous pieces...

Did pen a very odd and rather adult tale that was unanimously rejected for being too strong or too Campbell-esque - and there I was thinking that having my own BFS booklet and an appearance in Best New Horror 3 had set me on the road to wider success in publication!

Its nice to hear from you Russ. It's a shame you stopped writing. I did the same after getting rejected but my other half keeps bullying me into trying again. So after stopping for a number of years I'm trying my hand again.

Hope you get things published in the future.

Wayne.
