Never Again: Weird fiction against racism and fascism edited by Allyson Bird and Joel Lane.

I, too, feel that is a great anthology. (My review of it in 2010 here)

A brilliant collection  from a previously unknown author to me

Among other publications, Daniel Mills' debut novel REVENANTS was published by Chomu Press - and he had a story in my Classical Music Horror anthology. And he has a story in the Ewers tribute anthology DELICATE TOXINS, I recall.

I'm reading La Femme from Newcon Press - I'm about halfway through and pretty impressed by at every story so far.

It also has a story from the point of view of a pet that I - gasp - actually like! I normally hate that kind of thing :)

Currently reading Neil Gaiman's American Gods. About 1/3 of the way in and absolutely loving it!

American Gods was on my all time top ten list, till Anansi Boys nudged it out.

Finished God's War by Kameron Hurley. It's a bit of a grind, full of torture, misery, and characters who hate each other, but it was good. Reminded me of things like Escape from New York and Roger Zelazny's Damnation Alley.

I'm re-reading At the Mountains of Madness at the moment. My partner got me the Barnes and Noble Complete Works of HP Lovecraft for Christmas and it's quite gratifying to drop it onto the train table with a thunk on my morning commute whilst the people around me are reading kindles or playing on their phones. :D I just started Titus Groan too. One of the many books I should have read years ago.

Consider Anansi Boys to be next on my list then!

Now reading The Buried Life by Carrie Patel, about a detective and her new partner (a former actor) investigating the murder of an academic in what seems to be a steampunky post-apocalypse underground city. Quite enjoying it, but so far it reminds me a lot of City of Stairs, and it can't help suffering in comparison because I loved that book so much. The bits in this one where the former actor applies his skills to police work are fun.

Reading Drunk with Blood by Steve Hill, which is brilliant. The stuff in there makes the Red Wedding look like a pleasant family gathering.

Reading Black and Brown Planets, edited by Isiah Lavender, about race and science fiction. Two essays about one episode of Deep Space 9 seems a bit much (though I haven't read them yet, so maybe each will justify its place), and given the title it seems odd that it doesn't cover India (the "Brown" section is more about South America), but that aside it seems interesting so far - learning about a lot that is new to me.
