We watched The Transporter 3 - enjoyed the previous films, but this one was distressingly similar to Mr Bean's Holiday!

Coming soon to a theatre near you...

Finally got to watch Death Race the night before last, and absolutely loved it. One of Stephen King's top ten films of last year. It's a terrible shame it didn't make it to the shortlist. Like seeing early 2000AD on screen...

That reminded me, a week or two ago we watched The Orphanage to complete our set of BFA nominated films, and I posted my thoughts on them on the TTA forum, but not here... At the moment I'm leaning towards The Dark Knight...

Cloverfield - enjoyed parts of it very much, but a bit of a letdown. Far too derivative of Godzilla (the Emmerich one) and Half-Life 2. By the time Half-Life gets to the cinema it's going to look old-hat because the movies have been mining it relentlessly for ideas for the last few years...

The Orphanage - I thought this was on about the same level as something like the Amityville remake. It featured my least-favourite type of character in movies - a supposed rationalist who ignores the evidence (the Dad). A huge chunk of it was lifted straight from Poltergeist. I think it's often easy to overestimate how good films are when they're in a foreign language.

The Dark Knight - enjoyed it, could appreciate it was a well-made film, but didn't love it outright. Can't stand the batsuit or the batvoice. And it's only marginally eligible - strictly speaking it's a techno-thriller rather than a fantasy film.

The Mist - parts of this I loved more than any of the other films, the creatures, the mist, and so on, but the religious stuff was overdone and everyone went nuts too quickly. I did like the ending, though. I may change my mind and vote for this in the awards, especially if I get to see the black and white Director's Cut by then.

Iron Man - well made, and a good trip to the cinema, but there wasn't much to it.

Just watched JCVD. Who knew there were still original ideas out there?

Saw The Watchmen which I found surprising good.

Agreed. That was a refreshing change of pace & style.
I liked his 'up-in-the-air' monologue...
Who'd have thought a Van Damme flick could mix comedy & tragedy so well?

I am in ignorance of this film (JCVD). More likely, I've ignored it because of Van Damme. But if it's that good...
I note it's under a fiver on Amazon. Might buy a copy...

To show how behind the times I am: watched V for Vendetta on BBC3 last weekend. I was rather impressed, especially as I expected rubbish. The mask made empathy with the V character impossible, but the metaphor was spot on.

I know some people didn't like V for Vendetta but I liked it too, Peter. I might watch it again soon.

I should be ashamed to admit this, but the last film I watched was Locusts, starring Lucy Lawless and that bland bloke out of the Blood Ties series... it just came on late one night on TV. ;D

Saw 'Let the Right One In' this weekend.  Managed to be moving and frightening at the same time.  Lived up to the praise.

Moon. A very promising indication of directing talent from Duncan Jones. Great performance from Sam Rockwell, and loved the model-work - Derek Meddings' spirit lives on!  ;D

Re-watched Accion Mutante on DVD for the first time since it was released and enjoyed myself silly. ;D
