Very happy to have Selina Lock join us  Smiley

THE GIRLY COMIC BOOK 1

Edited by Selina Lock – Book Design by Jay Eales – Cover Image by Des Taylor

The first collection of stories culled from the pages of The Girly Comic, featuring the talents of industry professionals such as John Stokes, Mike Collins, Simon Fraser, mpMann and Martin Millar, veteran indy creators such as Lee “Inner City Pagan” Kennedy, Terry “Sleaze Castle” Wiley and Jeremy Dennis, alongside exciting new talents from the British Small Press scene and beyond.

“Make them rich, and hopefully they'll keep on doing what they do for a long, long time.” - Mike Carey (from his introduction)

“An absolute gem of a publication” - Comic Creators Guild

“One of the undisputed stars of the small press” - Savantmag

“Basically, you have to read this” - Regie Rigby, Fool Britannia

The Girly Comic features self-contained comic strips across all genres with female protagonists. From the autobiographical tales of Lee Kennedy to the Two Fat Ladies meets Ghostbusters of Oddcases by Alistair Pulling and Bevis Musson; From Terry Wiley's Surreal School Stories to Martin Millar's Good Fairies of New York with Simon Fraser. This collection is mainly comprised of strips selected from the first nine issues of The Girly Comic.

Shortlisted for the British Fantasy Society Award for Best Comic/ Graphic Novel 2009.

Thanks Ally, nice to be here and representing a slightly different area of creativity  Smiley

I've spent most of my creative time in the last eight years editing and co-publishing The Girly Comic, but sometimes find time to do some writing of my own. Mostly Girly Comic strips such as Anglea D'eath (with Dave Windett) http://www.davewindett.com/creator/angela.html, graphic novel reviews for Prism and my personal zine Brain Scrapings http://www.factorfictionpress.co.uk/othertitles.html

I'm also on the organising committee for the Caption comic convention, the longest running small press comic event in the UK. This year it will be on Sat 31st July & Sunday 1st Aug at the East Oxford COmmunity Centre, and the theme is Mad Science!

Welcome back to all those that were off at WHC. We were down in London at the UK Web & Mini Comix Thing on Saturday & dropped some Girly Comic books off at Gosh comics (opposite the British Musuem).

From today we're running the comic strip adaptation of Allen Ahsley's Pumpkin Coach story. It will be a page a day over ten days at http://www.factorfictionpress.co.uk/webcomic

Here's today's opening page:

Having been laptopless for a few months I haven't had much chance to check the forums. Now I have a new netbook hopefully I'll be a bit more active!

To start with here's some photos from today's Terror Scribes Gathering http://www.flickr.com/photos/girlycomic/tags/terrorscribes/

Blog post to follow.

Also it's an honour to be short listed for the BFS Award for Best Comic again.

Conversations about zines at Caption last weekend, and online, reminded me that I hadn’t made the second issue of my personal zine available online. (Released Aug 2009)

So here it is… This issue includes an interview with me about being nominated for a British Fantasy Award for The Girly Comic: the small press comic I edit and co-publish, an edited and expanded article about my experiences of coming off anti-depressants, a comic strip reflecting on my relationship with science, and pieces about John Hughes films, things I’ve been digging and a gig mini-review.

Download pdf: http://www.factorfictionpress.co.uk/BrainScrapings2_small.pdf   (Right click and "save target as" to download)

I’m hoping to have a third issue ready for the Birmingham Zine Festival in September.

If you fancy your comics a little more action orientated than The Girly Comic, then Jay has just released the latest issue of Violent! which is free to download:
http://factorfictionpress.co.uk/violentwebcomic/2010/09/01/violent-18-still-free-and-still-kicking/

We only have a handful of The Girly Comic Book Vol. 1 left, so if you want us to bring a copy along to FantasyCon for you let us know. £15.
