Welcome to Cate Gardner Smiley

Cate Gardner's stories have appeared in Fantasy Magazine, Postscripts, Necrotic Tissue and Arkham Tales. She has stories forthcoming in Shock Totem and Space and Time.

EDISON'S FRANKENSTEIN

Kathleen M. Kemmerer has reviewed Postscripts: Edison's Frankenstein for Tangent Online, here's what she has to say about Cate's story...

'Catherine J. Gardner’s quirky horror short, “Hand Scratched Note” is set in and around the Graveyard of the Forgotten, where a boy named Ghost meets and falls for a Goth girl named Marie Pickens, a girl with a third eye that she claims allows her to see ghosts. To her great delight, when she asks if he is dead, he says that he is, and the rest is a series of strange, sad coincidences as unlikely as they are macabre. This is an enjoyable story that entertains and then continues to haunt the imagination.'

DEAD SOULS

'Dead Souls contains twenty five stories that will only ensure the darkness without enfolds you in its cold embrace. Within these pages, you will find a man so affected by the horrors he witnessed at war, he believes another is guiding his actions; a small boy with enough malevolence to shake a young girl to her very core; a tattoo artist with a hidden agenda. You will read about a future not as bright as we might have imagined or hoped; a puppet show with a damning message; a new twist on the theory of Beethoven's Immortal Beloved; Adolf Hitler in a new guise, and something terrible that approaches us in the desert. All this, plus many, many more, tales of darkness and human suffering.'

Hiya Cate!  And welcome aboard.  What's new at your end?

This is one ace writer, people.  And one of the funniest, too.

Waving hello to Simon and Ally   Grin Thanks for the introduction, Ally and for sending me over here, Simon. Must admit, I feel a bit self conscious with an 'author board' so I'll be expecting the Gods to play favourably and deliver lots of delicious, awesome news into my inbox so that I have something to type here... I hope I haven't tempted them.

You can find me online at www.categardner.com (that's the boring site - I mean official) or visit my blog, http://fright-fest.blogspot.com

Great cover art!

Reminds me of those wonderfully unhinged Max Ernst collages.

I'll have to check out Max Ernst. It keeps reminding me of something and I can't put my finger on it.  Grin

Thanks, Carole.
