The longlist for the British Fantasy Awards has now been released.

Just a note to say that Telos Publishing have asked for their book IT LIVES AGAIN! HORROR MOVIES IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM, Axelle Carolyn (Telos) to be withdrawn from consideration in the Best Small Press category.

The Vault of Evil have asked for their website to be withdrawn from consideration for the non-fiction award.

Just curious: Why would someone want their thing not to be considered for an award? There must be something I am missing....

As far as the Telos one goes, it was the only small press project recommended for the award (both small presses and their projects are eligible), making it a little anomalous, but also meaning it would split the Telos vote. I think at the AGM this year I'll propose that we narrow that category down to just the presses themselves, because I do think the projects are well covered now by other, new categories, e.g. non-fiction and magazines.

The Vault of Evil didn't give a specific reason, but there was some discussion of it on their forums.

This is not an explanation but it shows that its not so unusual.

Liz Williams has pointed out that her novel The Iron Khan isn't actually in shops yet, so I've removed it from the list.

Yes, I'm afraid it looks like I put my foot in it somehow by mentioning it on the Vault when I saw the nomination.  :(   Like Craig says though, it's up to Dem.

I thought this should've gone in the Non-Fiction category...

It is in there too - but it was eligible for the small press category, so I couldn't leave it out once someone had recommended it.

You put your cross next to Theaker's Quarterly, of course.  ;)

There'll be a paper form in the March mailing (going out sometime after Martin and Helen get back from WHC - it was held up by my issue of Dark Horizons), but if you want to vote now you can do it on the online form (http://www.tinyurl.com/bfalonglist2010).

For those who have never heard of Murky Depths - longlisted in the Magazine, and Best Art (Lars Rasmussen) catagories, as well as publishers of Sam Stone's Futile Flame in the Novel section, it sells in paperback (American comic book size) at £6.99 but Issue #10 (the one that features Lars' work) is also available as a PDF download for just £2. Okay, so you don't get to feel the quality or smell the print, but you do get a very inexpensive experience of what Murky Depths is trying to do.

Oh yes, and Issue #10 also features a story by, and a writing competition (deadline end April) to be judged by, Mike Carey who along with editor Terry Martin will be announcing the winner at Alt-Fiction in Derby in June.
