BFS calendars and ISBNs
« on: April 17, 2010, 11:18:37 am »
I'm preparing to apply for the next batch of ISBNs for BFS books, and as part of that I have to provide a list of what the last batch were used for. I've got most of them, as below:

0-9538681-1-7 - The Age of Chaos: the Multiverse of Michael Moorcock
0-9538681-2-5 - The Age of Chaos: the Multiverse of Michael Moorcock (leather bound) (2002)
0-9538681-3-3 - Book 14
0-9538681-4-1 - Book 15
0-9538681-5-X - Cinema Macabre
0-9538681-6-8 - The British Fantasy Society - a Celebration (2006)
0-9538681-7-6 - A Dick and Jane Primer for Adults
0-9538681-8-4 - Houses on the Borderland
0-9538681-9-2 - H.P. Lovecraft in Britain

But I'm having trouble working out what those three two (thanks, Jen!) in the middle were used for. The only other special publications I know of between 2002 and 2006 are the calendars, so if anyone still has those handy, I'd be grateful if you could have a look and see if they were given ISBNs...

I've probably got a spreadsheet somewhere...    ;D
Don't think the calendars got assigned ISBNs, though.

I've got 81-5-X as the Cinema Macabre thingy we did with PS, so maybe that's book 16?
Otherwise, I'm thinking maybe the other two missing ones were the calendars after all?

Thanks, Jen - you're right on the Cinema Macabre one. It didn't turn up when I googled it because I put the check number as 0 rather than X.

I hadn't heard of that one before, though I'd heard of the PS Publishing edition - always something new to learn about the BFS! I'll add it to our book pages.

I think that Calendars can be assigned ISBNs, as I've seen that category show-up when adding titles to Nielsen and Bowker databases. As long as it's got a staple in it, it counts as "bound" (and therefore VAT-free), and so it can be classified as a 'book'. You may not have to do so, but it seems like it can be done. So don't write-off the possibility those two mystery numbers are calendars.
