BFS Journal Spring 2011
« on: March 24, 2011, 11:47:44 am »
Work has completed on the BFS Journal for Spring 2011 and it's now at the printers.

We're hoping that we might be able to get them mailed out at the end of March, so copies should be arriving first week of April.

This time it's a paperback edition, and the content is absolutely stonking, with some brilliant stories, superb artwork, and a varied and interesting selection of reviews and non-fiction. We all hope that members enjoy it, and please post your thoughts and comments here.

The amazing cover courtesy of Daniele Serra is below:

I'll do that once we have mailed all the hardbacks out ... need to do a little work on the Word file before I can send it off.

Enjoying it so far. The columns of Ramsey Campbell and Mark Morris are excellent as ever. The reviews look good in two columns. Seems much more comfortable in a paperback - it puts less pressure on the contents.

I still think a contents page for the whole publication would be good. Also, there's no BFS news, no Chairman's chat, nothing about the BFAs or the new committee members - I do like the mailings to contain stuff that reflects that we're members of a society rather than just subscribers to a journal.

Bit of a shame that my review of Death Race 2 has gained a mistake since I submitted it, and is illustrated with a picture of the first movie..!

I love the cover and interior artwork, and adore the way each piece of interior artwork - and each poem - is given a full page to itself.

I've just joined the BFS this minute, is it too late to get the latest copy of the journal?

Not at all ... what will happen is that your details will be processed, and then we will get a 'new member' pack off to you which should contain an older BFS publication (or maybe two) plus a copy of a recent Journal which might be this edition, or the Winter 2010 one ... depends what we have stocks of available at the time.  If you specifically want this one just published, then drop a quick note to secretary@britishfantasysociety.org and we'll see what we can do.

Hmm, I'm going to sound like I'm after a freebie now (which I am!), but I was surprised by this comment, David. When I rejoined (last Nov/Dec, I think?) I didn't receive any other publications, just the two journals so far. I'd assumed there were no further "other publications" for members - there used to be something at Christmas, didn't there? Might I be entitled to something? *rubs hands together in a Scrooge-like fashion*

This latest journal arrived today - looks excellent. Can't wait to get my teeth into it later tonight!  :)

The 'pack' as such it is is only sent to new members Caroline - if you rejoined then you wouldn't have received it. And it's only what we have spare/available at the time. We have also had a lot of teething problems with new people taking over a number of the Society roles and some of the packs have been delayed in being sent out. If you're concerned, then please drop me a note at chair@britishfantasysociety.org and I'll see what we can do to sort it out for you.

Got my copy yesterday and I must admit I was impressed with it. A lovely cover and the interior was excellent. Haven't read any of the contents yet - haven't had the time - but it looks good and, from what I have already heard, I look forward to delving into some of the stories.

Ah, sorry David (Howe, that is), I meant that I rejoined after a period of not being a member. But it's OK, no need to worry about it.

I started reading my journal last night and loved it. Started with Terry Grimwood's tale which was excellent, loved Jim Steel's short short, and then chuckled all the way to bed after reading Sam Stone's brilliant take on an old theme - zombies have never been such fun!  :D  Great stuff so far - thanks to all concerned.
