Must get back to Dragon Age Origins sometime!

Currently playing Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, which is basically a simplified version of Shadow Complex, and Batman: Arkham City, which is pretty good. Haven't quite got the hang of the combat and combo system yet.

Does anyone else play 'Mount and Blade: Warband'? It never fails fails to get me in the mood for writing a bit of heroic fantasy. Then again, I rarely actually do write it because I'll spend the time playing M&B instead...

Haven't heard of Mount and Blade: Warband till now, but it looks good.

Very grateful to Lego Harry Potter for keeping the children quiet and happy this half-term. Lovely to hear them co-operating so peacefully.

The big gaming news for me this month was that Firaxis have quietly been working on a remake of X-Com: Enemy Unknown (this is a separate project from the FPS being made by a different studio). Looks very much like my idea of the perfect game!

That is very good news indeed! I loved X-Com. I never managed to complete it because I would get too attached to my squad and when the missions increased in difficulty I would have to keep restarting every time one of my favourites died. That signifies two things: I am an anal retentive geek and X-Com was a terrifically immersive game.

Definitely was... I only played it on the easiest levels, but still had my share of restarts - usually because of a glitch in the PlayStation version that made your characters do a weird little Bailey's walk every now and again (I had to buy a PSmouse in the end).

It was the way it all fit together that made it so perfect - the way the battles provided fodder for research which then had such a huge effect on the battles. In the final assault upon Cydonia my squad had such awesome psychic powers that we had most of the aliens under our mental control by the end of the first turn...

Yes, it was a beautifully balanced game. And I've had few more atmospheric gaming moments than stalking greys through a deserted farmyard.

This thread has given me a yen for X-Com which can't be satisfied on my netbook. I've just discovered, however, that its forerunner 'Laser Squad' can be played in browser here:

That's my evening sorted!

I prescribe a dose of NCIS: the Game. Tape it into your Xbox for a bit and any gaming addiction will be stopped dead in its tracks. Moving furniture around is the highlight...

I had to sell my X-Box, Joshua - it was the only way I could stop my Skyrim addiction.

(I got 140 septums for it, bought myself a Potion of Normality)

About a quarter of the way through Batman Arkham City on PS3 and trialling the Rift intro levels.

I went back to the Christopher Fowler/Patrick Stewart War of the Worlds - I had made some notes but wanted to finish the game before writing a review. But after an hour of playing it I hadn't made any progress at all... A very attractive game, with wonderful narration and animation, but old school difficulty levels.

I'm playing Diablo III at the moment (when the servers are on-line), but I really need to get back into Skyrim. I played Dragon Age: Origins a while ago but never finished it. I seem to have a penchant for not seeing some games through to the end.

Skyrim bored me so much I sold it after two weeks of solid play.

I know, I know... let me have it...

I think that's fair enough; It's never going to be everyone's cup of tea. I find I can become so immersed in the actual environment that I rarely make much actual progress in terms of quests. The vast scope of it is a remarkable achievement, though it can often be quite daunting.
