Current BFS vacancies

[NB: no longer updated. See the BFS bulletin for information on the latest vacancies.]

Hi everyone

I thought it might be good to have a round-up of the jobs the BFS needs volunteers for at the moment. I'll try to remember to update this post as positions are filled and others become vacant.

Note that volunteers for committee posts must be fully paid-up members of the society and over 18 years of age. We're allowed a maximum of two committee members who live overseas. (I think we currently have none.)

Editorial and web admin posts are appointed by the BFS chair. FantasyCon posts are appointed by the FantasyCon chair. Other committee posts are decided by election at the AGM, but if a post becomes vacant between AGMs the chair may appoint any fully paid-up member considered suitable.

If a job interests you, please contact the chair to make enquiries at: chair@britishfantasysociety.org.

British Fantasy Awards Administrator

VACANT FROM 2016 AGM. Committee post (elected). Responsible for the administration of the awards, which must be done in accordance with the rules of the British Fantasy Awards constitution. The awards system can be flipped on its head by an AGM, but currently (2016) involves: allowing people to contribute to an online suggestions list; inviting and collating the votes of BFS and FantasyCon members; commissioning and supervising the production of the physical awards (and plaques, where produced separately); appointing and supervising the awards juries; announcing the nominees; arranging for the jury members to receive reading copies of the nominated works; providing the presenters' envelopes for FantasyCon; announcing the winners online following the ceremony and communicating them to the membership; arranging for the payment of prize money where relevant; receiving and giving feedback on proposed changes to the awards constitution and arranging for the proposals to appear on the AGM agenda in the proposer's preferred form; applying any successful AGM proposals to the awards constitution and communicating those changes to the membership; keeping the BFA pages on the BFS website up-to-date. The awards administrator hasn't generally been involved in organising the awards ceremony, which is organised by FantasyCon, except in providing the presenters' envelopes and arranging for the physical awards to be delivered there. The awards administrator must present or supply an annual report to the AGM. More info here.
