British Fantasy Awards 2014
« on: January 04, 2014, 11:30:01 AM »
Voting has now begun in the 2014 awards! An email with details on how to vote has gone out to all BFS members. Similar emails to FantasyCon 2012 and 2014 are to follow from their respective organisers.

If you're a BFS member and you haven't had an email, first check your spam and bulk mail folders and then let me know.

Voting will end at midnight, February 28. It's all happening a bit sooner this time because FantasyCon will be much earlier in the year than WFC was.

One last note: I'm having trouble accessing the BFS website from my home connection at the moment, so any queries are best sent to me by email.

If you think you should've received an email from Stephen Theaker about voting and haven't, please contact the secretary -- it could be that your membership update hadn't made the books when I took over. It's only happened once -- so far.

Well posted my suggestions for what it's worth, never a fan of the jury awards. I prefer my awards Hugo to Booker.

Comic section I did go for Ghosted from imagine, on-going series. It reminded my of the Legend of Hell House meets Ocean's 11 and this first arc I enjoyed, the 1st 5 issues ie the first story arc are collected as below.

Voting in the British Fantasy Awards 2014 will close on February 28, at midnight. With a few days to go only 10% of our members have voted, so I have just sent out a follow-up. I'll be grateful even to people who submit an empty ballot form, just so we know we reached you, but you chose not to vote.

You can vote if you are a member of the British Fantasy Society, FantasyCon 2012, or FantasyCon 2014. Vote here.

(Seriously, vote! My kids have got the vote this year, thanks to attending FantasyCon, so if you don't take part, you only have yourself to blame if Adventure Time and Monster High sweep all categories!)

Voted!

And there's nothing wrong with Adventure Time! Watched the first series on DVD recently.

Yes, it's brilliant - my favourite cartoon since Samurai Jack. I think it would have been a serious contender if we were still voting for best programme instead of best episode. And the comic is very good too.

Now up to 16%. Thanks everyone! Last year I think we hit 21%, and it'd be nice to beat that.

Up to 20%! Thanks, everyone. Even if you only want to cast one vote in one category, that will be very welcome. In pretty much every category a single vote could still change the nominees.

The last day of voting in the awards, and 22% of our members have voted so far, as well as quite a few FantasyCon attendees. If you haven't voted yet, here's where you do it, by midnight tonight.

I put in a few votes, even though I hadn't read/ seen a lot of what was on the lists, and some of what I'd read I didn't think warranted a vote.  I also voted for one not on the list, which may not qualify.

however, it's made me think I should keep more up to date with my reading in 2014, so next year I'll be more with it.

Thanks, Caroline, Stewart. I'm really pleased with how many people have taken part. I think it's the first time when I've been involved that we've had over a hundred voting forms submitted for this stage of voting. I'd love it if we could reach 25% member participation. Might have to go knocking on the doors of Birmingham members tonight. ;-)

OK, I have voted in the categories that I am interested in and left blank those that I am not particularly bothered about.
Note to myself: get my recommendations in much earlier next year. It's a scandal or an egregious omission(!) that nobody else put "Sein und Werden" on the "Best Magazine" list.

We have broken the 25% barrier!
