message today (12 jan 2016) from Joe Mynhardt regarding the wonderful Horror 101 - the way forward career advise by seasoned professionals

Right from the start this book was meant to be widely shared. That's why I'm making it FREE all week long. Grab a copy if you haven't yet, share this post, tag your friends. The tips in this massive collection is not just for horror writers.

Feel free to check out the line-up on the Amazon page if you're not hooked yet. Here's just a little taste: Ramsey Campbell, Jack Ketchum, Ellen Datlow, Graham Masterton, Lisa Morton, Scott Nicholson, William Meikle, Tim Waggoner, Lucy A. Snyder, and Weston Ochse.

After this Horror 101 will move off KDP Select, so it'll never be free again.

You can get the complete The Boys, plus lots of other Garth Ennis comics, for as little as $15 in the latest Humble Bundle: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/garth-ennis-dynamite-bundle. Perfect for fans of ultraviolence, huge twists, dark takes on superheroes, and frequent misspelling of of the word discreet.

Massive Humble Bundle of Star Trek comics here: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/star-trek-comics-bundle. As little as £12 for the lot, and above £19 they'll throw in the print edition of one of John Byrne's weird but interesting photo comics.

If you'd like to find out more about the Sydney J. Bounds of Sydney J. Bounds Award fame, volumes one and two of The Best of Sydney J. Bounds are available on Kindle for a mere 99p each:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=node%3D341689031&field-keywords=best+of+sydney+bounds

They cover his science fiction, his horror, and even a couple of short novels that were previously published only in Italian translation.

Two international SFF anthologies that I've recently come across, both currently available as free e-books:

  • Dreams from Beyond edited by Julia Novakova, an anthology of Czech speculative fiction, featuring translated stories from authors including Pavel Renčín, Petra Slováková, Jaroslav Mostecký, Jan Kotouč, Jaroslav Veis, TomᚠPetrásek, Julie Novakova, Vilma Kadlečková, Lucie Lukacovicova and Hanuš Seiner (whose work has recently appeared in Strange Horizons). Currently available in PDF, other e-book formats will be released in time for Eurocon in November.
  • Islamicates Volume I edited by Muhammad Aurangzeb Ahmad, an anthology of Science Fiction short stories inspired from Muslim Cultures; three stories (by Alex Kreis, R.F. Dunham and Sami Ahmad Khan) were the winners of a writing contest on the Islam and SF site, the others are honorable mentions. Freely available in all e-book formats.

For the rest of today only, there's a sale of Gollancz ebooks on at various stores:

http://www.gollancz.co.uk/2016/09/the-gollancz-festival-ebook-sale/

Lots of good stuff, all for 99p. I went for books by Stephen Baxter, Tricia Sullivan, Joe Abercrombie, Elizabeth Bear, Joe Hill and our very own president James Barclay.

There's a Humble Bundle of Subterranean Press ebooks available for the next couple of weeks, including books by Tim Powers, Cherie Priest, Connie Willis, Alastair Reynolds, Mira Grant, Kelley Armstrong, John Scalzi and Catherynne M. Valente:

https://www.humblebundle.com/books/sub-press-fiction-book-bundle

Quite a line-up! This publisher's ebooks are often unavailable in the UK, for rights reasons, so this could be the only chance we get to buy some of these.

Massive sale of Marvel books in the Amazon Kindle store at the moment. Lots of excellent stuff (so much that my card has just been declined after reaching my daily transaction limit!), but something that might especially interest BFS members is the complete set of ten Dark Tower graphic novels for £20.55:

Lots of first episodes of genre interest available free on Amazon Video, here, including Sleepy Hollow, Evil Dead, The Strain, The Exorcist, Outcast, American Horror Story, Scream Queens, etc. Handy if you don't have Sky or cable and want to sample the new stuff.
