Gene Wolfe's "The Book Of The New Sun":

The greatest SF novel ever written.

I hope that's controversial enough for you all  :D

Now boys.... you can't just drop statements like that and expect to get away with it....

Expand please....

Why should I shell out cash on the Gene Wolfe book?  What elements make you think it the best SF novel ever written?  Plot?  Writing style?  Innovations?  Characters?  What?

And what do Hitchhikers & the boys from the Dwarf have over it?

TBOTNS: -

For originality, characters, setting, sub-text (most of the novel is sub-text...), amazing description, startling humour, pathos, wit, and general all-round stunningness TBOTNS is unbeatable. Once you're sucked in, you're sucked in for good. It's available as a Gollancz Masterwork in two volumes.
