March Open Night - accommodation
« on: February 06, 2007, 08:02:32 pm »
Hi all,

Jay & I are thinking about trying to make it down to London for the March open night. Can anyone recommend some reasonbly priced accommodation?

It's a bit far to come from Leicester and back in an evening, so we were thinking of making a weekend of it.

I used to stay in the cheap guesthouses close to Victoria Station along Warwick Way (Colliers Hotel for example) a few years ago. Most of them along there are reasonably priced, if a little basic.

I've usually stayed at the Arran House Hotel - basic but reasonable and a two-minute walk from Goodge St Station.

May come down for the March night too.

I can't praise Lastminute.com enough when it comes to finding a cheap hotel in central London for dirt cheap.

If you're willing to not know the name of your hotel until after you've booked, their "Top Secret" selections really are very good deals. I recently paid ?60 per night to stay at a four-star hotel a couple of minutes' walk from Euston, and that's only because the ?50 per night four star hotel in Bloomsbury wasn't available for one of the nights I wanted.

Read the reviews of the hotel before booking. They often give clues as to which hotel exactly it is, or at least what chain it belongs to, and how far you'll be from a tube station.

Another good site for hotels is www.smoothhound.co.uk - loads of B and B's and hotels, in all price ranges.

Thanks for the tip! That's what we used, and ended up with a 4 star place for a very reasonable rate. Looking forward to staying somewhere other than a Travelodge.  :)

Hope to see a few of you on Friday night!
