Tony Richards Interviewed

Tony Richards is one of those writers whose work is enjoying a resurgence of interest at the moment. Having had two horror novels published in the late 80s and then having been sidelined as the bottom dropped out of the genre, he has been steadily working within the independent press ever since, maintaining his profile with short story sales. This year, however, will see publication of “Dark Rain” by Eos, the sf/fantasy imprint of HarperCollins US. Back selling novels where he belongs, I caught up with Tony by email and asked him a few questions about his career and why he thinks the horror genre is popular again.

The gut response of many gamers to the news that a writer has been hired to work on Doom 4?
 
Quite possibly that the project's already going in the wrong direction! If there was one thing people wanted after Doom 3 it was a more convenient torch. If there was another thing they wanted, it was a bit less story.

Lev Grossman and The Magicians

Rocketing eBooks

I recently got rather excited about the release of the Amazon Kindle (in the US) and the Sony Reader (over here). I couldn’t afford either at the time, but it occurred to me how useful they would be for reading submissions. That reminded me that I still had my Rocket eBook, almost ten years of age now, in a box with all my other decrepit bits and bobs of technology, so I dug it out.
