David Gemmell Legend Award: Shortlist Announced

The shortlist of novels up for the David Gemmell Legend Award – awarded to the best novel in the spirit of David Gemmell’s heroic fantasy – was announced this weekend at Eastercon in Bradford and Trolles et Legendes in Belgium:

  • Last Argument of Kings, Joe Abercrombie (Gollancz)
  • Heir to Sevenwaters, Juliet Marillier (Tor UK)
  • The Hero of Ages, Brandon Sanderson (Tor US)
  • Blood of Elves, Andrzej Sapkowski (Gollancz)
  • The Way of Shadows, Brent Weeks (Orbit)

Originally the shortlist was to have been considered by a panel, but after feedback from “fans, readers and industry alike”, the organisers have decided that the public will vote on the shortlist to decide the winner.

The inaugural prize will be awarded at a black tie ceremony on 19 June 2009.
