A farewell from the secretary:

As President of the British Fantasy Society, I can officially confirm that, after several years of diligent service, Andy Marsden has stepped down as Secretary of the Society. On behalf of the whole committee and the membership in general, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Andy for all of his work during his time in the position – a voluntary role, like they all are. Andy has asked me to pass on this message to everyone:

Hello to all my friends in the BFS and FantasyCon. After five and a half years, I have finally decided to step down from my role as Secretary, effective immediately.

It has been an absolute honour to serve the BFS over these last five-plus years. I have made so many wonderful, amazing friends through FantasyCon and the BFS over the years, it has been an incredible experience. I am especially proud that I was able to lead the team that took FantasyCon to Scotland for the first time ever, and got to RedCloak at several other cons over the years. There has never been a dull moment! Sadly, the pressures of multiple lockdowns, on top of regular work, have taken their toll, and I need to start refocusing my time and energy before I burn myself out.

I will not be abandoning you all, I shall still be at FantasyCons in the future, and I look forward to seeing you all in the bar!

I’m sure Allen, Helen, Lee and the Committee will announce the search for a new Secretary in the very near future. It’s not a difficult job by any means, but it does take up a regular amount of your free time each month, and that’s where I’ve not been able to commit, hence why the Bulletin has been conspicuously absent these last few months. I wish whoever takes the role all the very best, and good luck!

Talk to you all soon,
Andy
